Art in Bloom

3 days / 2 nights: March 21-23

DAY 1, March 21:

  • As we are starting to escape the doldrums of winter and flowers are starting to bloom, come to MetroWest to enjoy some fantastic art! Spend the day at the spectacular Paradise City Arts Festival. From artists with established reputations to emerging talents fresh on the scene, 170 curated artists and makers delight you with their extraordinary work. This unbelievable show is the go-to destination for imaginative home decor, art for your walls and sculpture for your garden, as well as a source for handcrafted fashion, jewelry and gifts that transcend expectations. With live music and cafes onsite, you can spend a full day exploring! The show is open March 21, 22 & 23.
  • Once you’ve oohed and aahed (and shopped your fill), head to dinner at Lookout Farm. Their sensational BBQ is best enjoyed with a flight of their handcrafted ciders. Enjoy it all in the lively taproom listening to live music with Timko, a great Boston-area singer and guitarist/bassist, performing 6-9pm on Mar 21.
  • Check in for the night to the Hampton Inn, located in the Marlborough entertainment district, which will make a great home base for your holiday. They offer the comforts of home with in-room refrigerators, wireless internet, and a complimentary breakfast.

DAY 2, March 22:

  • Visit Concord to see Paintings and Drawings by Kat O’Connor at the Umbrella Arts Center. O’Connor works in watercolor, acrylic, oil, and drawing media. She is a Copley Master with the Copley Society of Artists and was honored with a Co/So Fellowship and Residency at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown Massachusetts in 2023. Her show, and several others, are currently on view at Umbrella Arts.
  • In the afternoon, pop over to Concord Academy to see the fascinating Quilts250 exhibition. Entitled Stitching in the Spirit of Democracy, the show is part of Concord’s celebration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. The free exhibition is open until 4pm, with a fascinating lecture on American Quilts scheduled for 5pm with a nominal fee.
  • Afterwards, enjoy dinner and a show at Sorrento, a charming Italian eatery who will be hosting a jazz concert on March 22 entitled Remembering the 1900’s by the Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra. This amazing concert features Mark Zaleski on sax from 7:30 – 10:15pm.

DAY 3, March 23:

  • In the morning, grab a bite to eat at Lost Shoe, a local favorite with amazing coffee, pastries, breakfast sandwiches and yummy Belgian waffles.
  • Head to the Danforth Art Museum to explore their latest spring exhibits, featuring artists who delve into self-identity and how their experiences have shaped their creative journeys. Tina Feingold’s Wishful Thinking showcases vibrant, textured abstractions created during the pandemic, alongside newer works that evoke a sense of being transported to another world. Tim McDonald’s The Diamond Sea installation captures the poetic, meditative nature of creating in solitude. Selfhood, featuring works by Alice Dillon, Scott Foster, Kathryn Geismar, Lisa Tang Liu, and Keith Morris Washington, explores personal identity through figuration, symbols, and coded objects.
  • Once you’ve seen your fill, spend a little time learning the art of flamenco dancing! No experience necessary for this super fun Flamenco Dance Workshop at Hopkinton Center for the Arts.
