Hidden Gems and Historic Charm

2 days / 1 night

DAY 1:

  • Begin your day by exploring Framingham Historical Society. This small museum is housed in a historic building. You can learn about the area’s role in early American history, including its connection to the Revolutionary War.
  • After the museum, take a relaxing walk-through Cushing Memorial Park. A lovely park, featuring beautiful paths, a pond, and plenty of open green space for a peaceful break.
  • Head over to Downtown Framingham for lunch at The Rail Trail Flatbread Co., known for its artisanal flatbread and wood-fired pizzas. The restaurant’s location near the Framingham train station makes it a perfect stop before heading out to explore more of the region.
  • Explore the trails, ponds, and wildlife of the Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary, a 600-acre sanctuary in Natick. The sanctuary offers peaceful walking trails and opportunities for birdwatching, offering a serene break from the bustle of the surrounding towns.
  • Grab a delicious meal at Pueblito Paisa Columbia Restaurant. Savor their authentic Columbian cuisine.  We like the Pollo a la Plancha, a lovely chicken and rice dish.
  • Rest your head at Fairfield Inn & Suites in Framingham. Recently renovated, they have modern, sleek décor in their comfortable rooms.

  • Trek over to Sudbury and wander around the historic district to see several well preserved early colonial homes and landmarks such as Goodnow Library, which was the original town hall. Set up a private walking tour of the Wadsworth Cemetery and Monument from the Sudbury Historical Society.  This cemetery holds the remains of Captain Samual Wadsworth and features a monument to him and 28 of his men who fell here during a day-long battle in 1676 against King Philip of the Pokanoker Wamponags.
  • Take a hike along the Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge. There are 2,357 acres with trails for hiking or snowshoeing showcasing wildlife such as frogs to fawns and butterflies to bears.
  • Then go to Oak Barrel Tavern for some warm, delicious comfort food such as a bowl of Tavern Chili or BBQ Pulled Pork Mac N Chz.
